Web 2.0 - Web 3.0 - Web 4.0 ?

Many times I observe we discuss about main differences between web 2.0 vs. web 3.0. sBMJ site has mentioned this table, and I like it...

At a glance: web 2.0 and 3.0

Web 2.0Web 3.0
“The document web”“The data web”
Abundance of informationControl of information
ControversialNo less controversial
“The social web”“The intelligent web”

Mashups, fragmentation integration, new tools
Search, search, searchWhy search, when you can find?
Google’s Pagerank algorithmOntologies, semantic systems
Lawless, anarchicStandards, protocols, rules
Print and digitalDigital above all else

Other sources have mentioned a lot about the terms "ubiquitous connectivity" and "intelligence" when referring to Web 3.0. Evolution of Web 3.0 also involves the term "Semantic web", which means content of websites and online databases can be easily understood by computers and thus intelligence can be created.

If projection from Olaf Jacobi is true, then we will have Web 4.0 around 2020-2030 and there will be many intelligent personal agents to assist us with many things... By then, searching for stuffs will be very productive and pleasing. I think we will all live to see beyond that.

Before having Web 4.0, or even Web 3.0, there are some points to be addressed. Dave McClure has mentioned and illustrated Social Platform Wars (and 1st version here). His idea about Web 3.0 is interesting... you can read here . His article brings me attention about MicroSoft's HailStorm project, which to me is like a much improved passport stuff (single sign-on) with a way MicroSoft claims to be as a key authentication component around which developers can create Web-based services. Some says it is way for MicroSoft to make more bucks.

Anyhow, Mobile technology will also play a big part in the success of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 as it is predicted that 2+ billion connected. ~2/3 Web-capable. +1 million more/day. I can safely say that ubiquitous technology will be an integral part of our life then.

Let's see what Eric Emerson Schmidt say. He is Chairman and CEO of Google Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors of Apple Inc., etc.
